Bailey #7
This is my jointer plane. I bought it for $30 at an antique store in Paradise CA.
# 7 Type Study
Plane Features:
- I stole this format from Patrick Leach. I have typed this plane as a type 17 because of the rubber depth knob that definitely indicates it is a wartime plane. I think it is all original and is not a conglomeration of parts from other planes.
Differences from Patricks Study
- The bed does not match the type 17 description on Patricks page. In fact, I cant find any plane type that matches it.
- It does not have a ridge on the heel or toe.
- Made in USA is behind the knob. (not behind the frog)
- BAILEY is in front of the knob. (not behind the knob)
- The Plane number is on the heel. (not behind the knob)
The things that point to a type 17 are
- The rubber adjusting nut
- The tote and knob are secured to the bottom casting by a single long screw instead of the normal two-piece brass cap and a threaded rod
